Founder Rebecca Taylor ~ My Story

Thank you for being here and showing interest in this business and the story of how I got here.

My name is Rebecca Taylor. I’m a leadership branding photographer, brand strategist and online visibility coach – more on that later – with an affinity for all things creative!

I’ve tried my hand at everything from acting to graphic design, before eventually finding my true calling in photography. My life has changed a lot; but the one thing that stayed with me throughout everything is my passion.

My passion to create, to express myself, to exercise the freedom to imagine and tell beautiful stories ~ and to help other people to ignite their passion too!

WHERE DID IT ALL BEGIN?
I grew up on the Tweed coast (far north NSW), living a beautiful life drenched in sunshine and love. I was raised in a humble arts community where I was encouraged to believe that anything is possible and to lead from the heart.

I threw myself into everything and that deep yearning to find a way to make a living doing what I love, meant I was destined for a very active and adventurous life. At school, if you didn’t find me in the photography dark room or visual arts studio then you’d definitely find me up on the stage strutting my stuff, and having a ball!

The one thing lacking about my hometown, though, was opportunity. When it didn’t come a’knockin’ for me at the end of my Communications degree, I took matters into my own hands.

I traveled the world in search of my best life, and for a while, I thought I’d found it. Working in some swanky theatre gigs between the US and Europe, starring in productions and even getting hands-on behind the scenes, I was having a blast.

Lesson 1: Doing a broad degree doesn’t always help you in deciding on a career choice!

THEN WHAT?

I returned to Australia with that signature pocket fulla dreams, and moved into a share house in Sydney. I signed with a top-shelf agent and thought I had it made – but my heart cried out for something I didn’t have.

After 2 years, Sydney and I parted ways, and I moved to Melbourne to settle with my (now) husband. It wasn’t going to be long before the soulful, cultural artsyness of Melbourne was going to lure me back. I used to spend hours people watching at cafes and flicking through arts mags ~ getting inspired and planning my next career move.

Lesson 2: Never silence a thought in your mind that you might be destined for something better. Nothing is impossible.

PLOT TWIST
My creative urges weren’t muted for long. By the time I was back in Melbourne, I had become disenchanted by the acting world. Working behind the scenes for various top end theatre companies gave me a great insight into marketing for the arts but I needed to take back control of what I wanted to create.

My passion for visual design resurfaced again and I decided to retrain and complete a Master’s Degree in Communications Design. Here I learned everything from a new perspective. I discovered the art of branding, and became fascinated with how big brands told their stories visually. Was this my calling? Close, I thought to myself. But not quite.

Lesson 3: Life’s too short to waste time on things that don’t continually engage and excite you.

THE LIGHTBULB MOMENT

MY BEST LIFE

And now, here we are. Exhausted yet?! I know I was. But the excitement of everything finally ‘clicking’ in my mind was what powered me through. Photography was there all along – it wasn’t a ground breaking discovery,
but a discovery all the same. I wanted to use all that storytelling magic that I’d seen come alive on the stage, behind the scenes, and in the design studio and use it to develop people. To put an identity to a face, not a business.

I wanted to be part of that change in someone, where they look at a photograph of themselves and feel proud, feel empowered, feel excited to be who they are.

WHERE ARE WE NOW

Now. Today. The best day of all. Everything I do at Rebecca Taylor Photography is about empowering people to be the best version of themselves – and embrace it.

I want my client to let their guard down and channel every ounce of their energy into a gorgeous photograph that expresses their passion and hunger for what they do.

Lesson 5: People buy from people. Be authentic, stay true to yourself, and keep it real. Always.

Love
