Unleash the Real You and get Over, Overthinking It ~ during a photoshoot
A client of mine once told me that her biggest barrier to feeling confident in front of the camera is over-thinking EVERYTHING.
At first, this may sound like a small thing but it's actually a huge revelation and something that I felt called to write about straight away.
Over-thinking can elevate your stress levels, cloud your judgment and will often paralyze you from taking any action at all.
When you're in second guessing/self doubt mode it's easy for negative feelings to show up and these emotions will drive you to not living as your fullest expression and contributing in the way you want to.
I'm thrilled that my client openly shared this with me as I know what a big deal this is from my own personal experience.
If you find yourself in the over-thinking mode often, here's my top 5 tips on how to overcome this during a photoshoot.
My top 5 tips to not 'overthinking it' during a photoshoot:
1 - Get perspective
When we zoom out from ourselves and our lives we can start to tap into what truly matters to us and how we can best serve others.
Give yourself some time and space to allow you to focus on your soul work. When you do this you will see that life is bigger than you and that simply following your feel good can be the key to unlocking a healthy, happy and meaningful life.
Photo session tip: Before the session think of three top feelings that you'd like to feel more of in your life. This could be energised, inspired, excited, liberated, healthy, abundant, calm etc. During your photo session remind yourself of those core feelings and focus on bringing them into your photoshoot. Just saying them over and over to yourself can help release the hormones that initiate these feelings.
2- Love your body and realise there's no such thing as PERFECT
As humans, we are our own worst critics. Often what we see in the mirror is something completely unnoticed by the people around us and yet it's so easy to get caught up in wishing we looked more 'perfect'.
Firstly there is no such thing as perfect and the overly digitalised images of celebrities that we see in magazines, are not real (friendly reminder!).
Secondly, the differences in your appearance are what make you unique and even more adorable :) They also help you to stand out which can be used to your advantage when developing a personal brand that attracts like-minded people.
As the saying goes by Dr. Seuss - "Why fit in when you were born to stand out!"
Lastly, the little facial quirks, wrinkles, scars, crooked nose or wild hair are potentially features passed down from generations of people who love you. They also may tell a story about the adventures you've been on, the laughs you've shared and where you're ancestry is from. They are apart of you and are a trademark of your soul.
Photo session tip: Before your photo session look in the mirror with kindness. Appreciate your unique facial features and body shape. Look at your crows feet and think about the fun times you've had in your life. Look at your arms, legs and belly and thank them for being able to take you on all those exciting adventures and for creating those babies.

3 - Remember your "Why"
I'm sure you're familiar with the work of Simon Sinek and the 'Why' movement? His popular Ted talk helps us to see that the more we get clear on the reasons why we do what we do, the more meaning and purpose we will experience in our life and the more we can invite others to hop on board along with us. Want to find Your Why? - visit his website here.
Photo session tip: Every time your brain goes into overthinking/self doubt mode, bring yourself back to the reasons why you do what you do and the messages you want to share with the world. This will help to remove yourself from the equation so you can focus again on the people you want to serve and heal.
4 - Be grateful
When you take the time to reflect on your life and where you are at right now, you can find many reasons to be grateful.
Being grateful is a practice that helps to maintain an abundant mindset as it will remind you of the wonderful people in your life, the incredible experiences you've had and amazing work you've already done in your life. When you're grateful, everything can become a positive.
Photo session tip: Take the pressure off yourself and think of everything you're grateful for. Soon you will be feeling so loved up and abundant that you can't help but have fun during your session!
5- Self talk
Your thoughts are the source of your emotions and can influence how you feel about yourself and how you respond to events in your life. Positive self-talk is a powerful tool for increasing your self-confidence and curbing negative emotions.
Photo session tip: It may sound a little nutty but telling yourself how amazing, radiant and talented you are (over and over) will help release any stored up tension and allow you to radiate from the inside out.
Having a photo session doesn't need to feel scary. In fact I make it my mission during a photo experience to ensure that the time spent is nothing short of fun, playful and liberating. This is how I believe it should be!
I hope you enjoyed these tips. They're designed to not just to help with being on camera during a photo sessions but to help in everyday public life where you need to stop overthinking and just want to act.
Try them out for yourself!
